A warm southern welcome y’all!

Come follow us on our journey as we develop our acre of heaven into our forever home in Hartwell

My husband Michael comes up from Atlanta on the weekends with our two dogs. We were driving around one Saturday, daydreaming about moving out here and found a property for sale on October 6, 2018. Michael stopped and called the owner right then and there…

Our Dream Home
Our dream retirement home in Hartwell on Raindrop Circle on Lake Hartwell in NE Georgia, 1.5 hours out of Atlanta

I’ve been living in Mayberry RFD er Hartwell for the past 4 years now and have fallen in love with this friendly laid back town. My husband comes up with our two labs on the weekends and has fallen in love also. The original plan was to retire to Cleveland, GA where we have beautiful mountain land, but the people here sold us on Hartwell. The girls give their whole hearted approval too!

My big girls
Coco – aka Coco Nut, Coco Licious, Coco Puff – Michael’s English Chocolate Lab. Bonnie Anne – aka BonBon Baby, Red Dog – named after an Irish pirate Anne Bonnie, she steals socks – my craigslist rescue golden retriever/hound dog. How dorky can dog owners get, right?!

Cats have great staff! Our 3 sibling rescue kitties – Bobi, Binx, and Bella – enjoying lunch on my splurge, an $80 Boos block professional cutting board – oh my gosh  :O

Follow us as we develop a 32x28x8 garage into our country home. The land, .89 of an acre, has power and water. We plan on flower gardens with a patio, fire pit and water garden. Yay – beautiful thick fescue grass is already established! Most of the land is nice clean woods with a huge old oak tree which will be the focal point of our back yard.

Future Plans

Once we are all set up, we plan on a small greenhouse with a little nursery garden so we can sell plants to the local people. Small scale, organic, plants that do best in the south, both sun and shade. This is my heritage from my Mum, a Brit who had a greenhouse in Atlanta. I watered that greenhouse as a child…so it’s back to my roots. She always said to put a $5 plant in a $10 hole.

Come join us as we share ideas, compromises (Michael is all “man cave” and I’m all pollywogs and foo-foo), smashed fingers, over budget dilemmas, latest construction trends, flea market finds, and Goodwill snags. All the joys of building our very own downsized, empty-nester, forever shabby cottage!

NOTE: I downloaded dream photos off the internet until we actually build and can replace them with real time photos. Blogging is not the easiest thing I’ve done, especially with a senior brain lol. If a photo needs to be removed, by all means please let me know. Thank you!
